Sue Ross Legal are delighted to be working on an exciting new Duty Solicitor opportunity in Criminal Law, within a new multi-office firm. Taking on a senior management role, the successful candidate will be an integral part of the Criminal Defence Law Firm, dealing with a mixed caseload of both private client and legal aid criminal files in a fully supportive environment. You will be handling a range of criminal defence cases, and be confident attending police station and magistrate court clients. This role requires the eligibility to join the Court and Police Station Duty Rota Scheme. You will be tasked with handling a complex and sensitive caseload, ranging from bail applications, serious fraud and white-collar crime to Murder, Drug and theft cases. The role offers high levels of senior associate and partner contact, providing a fully supportive environment in which you can excel.

You’ll work closely with the SRA and other regulatory bodies. You’ll be the custodian and lead on all aspects of the creation of frameworks and reports that will help demonstrate compliance and good practice. The successful candidate will be given the relevant support to achieve regulatory compliance. The Candidate

• Solicitors with at least 1 year’s PQE (also open to highly motivated newly qualified candidates)

• Crime duty accreditation is essential

• Take on the role of COLP (Compliance Officers for Legal Practice)

• Holds a current practising certificate with no conditions

• Excellent communication and client care skills

• Ability to manage a demanding caseload, with supervision

• A pragmatic, professional and positive approach is required

• Higher Rights of Audience is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities include:

• Attending police station interviews

• Representation in the Magistrates’ Court

• Conducting advocacy

• Preparing cases for trial

• Representing vulnerable clients

• Liaising with CPS and courts

• Interviewing witnesses and drafting witness statements

• File management

• Criminal defence

• Interviewing witnesses and drafting witness statements

Salary – Benefits
